Currently, there is no specific regulation governing cryptoassets in Switzerland. However, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) categorizes cryptoassets based on their underlying economic function and applies existing financial market regulations to the cryptoasset itself, its issuance, and its transfers. FINMA distinguishes between three distinct types of cryptoassets (which it refers to as tokens): asset (or security) tokens, payment tokens, and utility tokens.
