As part of their efforts to implement the new data protection law, small and medium-sized enterprises are faced with the question of whether they should create the role of data protection officer. Even though this is optional under the new data protection law, it often makes sense to introduce this role, at least in part. Experience with this role within the scope of the European General Data Protection Regulation shows that compliance is significantly improved when an internal data protection officer is in place.
